Brighton Road, Croydon
Ben Reed Architects were commissioned to produce the design and working drawings for a new apartment block on this prominent corner plot, to replace an existing large dwelling. The planning consented scheme comprises 9 new apartments, ranging in size and with the majority all having private external amenity space. There is car parking for 6 cars, cycle store and communal gardens.
The design is a contemporary response to the local vernacular architecture, mimicking the traditional gable roofs and black and white facades. Ben Reed Architects worked closely with Croydon Planning Authority to ensure there were no overlooking or overbearing issues to neighbours which was a key concern, given the considerable increase in mass of building on the site.
Croydon Borough Council Planning Committee specifically praised the scheme on its well-considered, high quality contemporary design.
