Fieldgate Street, London

The scheme at 14 Fieldgate Street in the heart of Whitechapel for developer Chancerygate comprises 350 student residential units, a large retail unit at ground floor and nine private residential dwellings. Externally a blue brick façade and shimmering aluminium mesh screens conceal courtyards behind. Internally, a contemporary and vibrant foyer space is subdivided to offer unique social spaces for students. A similarly dynamic and contemporary design was introduced to each unit making them highly desirable for the student market and therefore delivered maximum value for the operator. The project is also one of the largest constructed in the UK using a lightweight steel frame structure. Prefabricated lightweight steel frame bathroom pods form an integral part of the overall structure, allowing for a rapid, efficient and sustainable construction process.
