Southampton Row

An office and retail development in the Bloomsbury Conservation Area, providing five floors of modern office space behind both new and retained facades. Ben was part of the Sheppard Robson design team. Two new buildings infill on Southampton Row and Southampton Place. Both facades of the new buildings follow the geometry of those adjoining, creating a continuous horizontal and vertical emphasis to the block. On Southampton Row, the stone mullions are expressed more strongly than the glazing, reflecting the strength of the mullions on the Edwardian facade. On Southampton Place, the building is progressively set back above the third floor, corresponding to the adjoining Georgian terraces
